Archive of Events

Swift NickWe have organised various events in Warwickshire too – an  exhibition for Shipston on Stour Museum and at Long Compton, to explain the significance of milestones and the progress of our restoration of the six cast iron mileposts on the Long Compton turnpike. We are also available to give talks to local organisations. Artistic interpretations, photography or written work from local students and pupils would be greatly welcomed!

Our authentic Highwayman enactor was booked for Long Compton Fete on 1st July – enthralling young and old alike with his tales of derring-do and his weaponry.

On Saturday 7th October 2017, the Milestone Society held its Annual Conference at Long Compton Village Hall.

Speakers included:

  • Ann King on Postal History; before the introduction of the uniform postal rate in 1840, the cost of postage was paid by the recipient, depending on the distance travelled – milestones were a useful way of measuring this.

  • a special guest from Write Out Loud to talk about the Poetry Competition and read the winning entries.

Any comments would be valued on our facebook group page.
